Fires Spelled the Coming of thr Spring

The people from the Plovdiv village Tsarimir celebrated the holliday Mufkanitsa. On this day the men jump over fires, so the horned cattle will be healthy and reproductive. This is the only place, where the local people keep and continue the thousand-year old tradition of Vlas Day - the first hoiday that spells the spring. The women knead round loafs and give out it in the square for the health of the oxes. In spite of the snow-broth, this year the fires in the square flamed up again and the unmarried men and women played a ring-dance. The most beautiful man stole the most beautiful woman and the girl`s mother drowned her sorrow in drink.
