The Crisis Hit the Gipsy Brides

[27/08/2010]

A rose dress with veils, a bunch of flowers in the hair, a golden coins necklace, a golden tooth sparkled on the sun. What is this? A gipsy bride on the Nativity of Mary Day. This year the tradition gathered again the gipsies in the Bachkovo monastery. The trading was for a live flesh. The people were looking for girls` husbands but the husband that gave more money could win. But the crisis hit also the brides trading and this year the more vigorous men could take a bride only for 500 levs. In happier years the sum for a bride could grow up to several thousand levs. Some of the dolled up dark girls tried to sell themselves for a four-number sum. The matchmen was urging the young to marry with love.
